how to build a sex room

Posted by Annelotte Mul on

Netflix' new show 'How To Build A Sex Room' is a real hit and people are excited and inspired because of the latest series released by the streaming platform.

In 'How To Build A Sex Room' interior-designer Melanie Rose offers help to couples who want to spice up their sex-life en want a sex room to do so; essentially a room where couples can experiment en explore their sexuality, according to the trailer. Wether it is a shiny pole in the middle of the room, a sex swing or a wall full of whips and cuffs, sky is the limit.

Melanie states the rooms are nowhere near tacky: "A sex room can be a real work of art", "A fantasy come true. In short, everything my clients dream of" she continues.

Feeling inspired yet? Now you can be as exotic as you want with the concept of a sex room, but even with a few little tweaks and a little extra love for your love nest (aka sex room) you can take your intimate experiences to a whole new level! And we are going to tell you how to build a sex room at home.

Location

First and foremost, where is this sex room going to be built? For the sake of convenience (since generally speaking most people don't just have a spare room at hand), we are going to take the bedroom as our sex room (quite practical because this is where most people are having sex anyway).

Clear the clutter

Bedrooms easily turn into part-time (or even full-time) closets, laundry areas, study/work area etc. That's not what this room is about. Make these clothes and clutter are cleared (or at least out of sight).

The bed

Everything starts with a good foundation, so make sure you have some quality bedding that is also aesthetically complimentary to the room. Fannie offers some prime bedding from Crisp Sheets, in various colours to match your style.

Now there is way more to accessorise your bed with: restraints. Think of silk ties, ropes or chains (depending on your preference) on the opposite ends of the bed; attach them to your headboard and bed legs or to the slatted base and pull them out from underneath.

Lighting

What we definitely don't want in your future sex room is harsh lighting, we want it to be sensual; work with one or various small lights (dimmable is a plus!) and candles. In the candle department we can help you to set the mood with Candier's scented candles. Or if you want to go that extra mile opt for the scented massage candle from Knude Society; this candle doubles as a heated massage oil once the wax is melted.

Multiple 'seating' areas

In case there is space for it, adding an extra area where you can get it on can add to the overall experience in the room and make it a bit more dynamic. Look for chairs or chaise longues without armrests so you have the ability to move around on it. You can go as wild as a rocking chair or a curved seat, whatever you want.

Accessories

Now there are tons of options to spice things up when it comes to actually having sex; a stimulating gel can get you excited but a vibrator can get you (and your partner) all the way. No matter wat you prefer, Fannie has got it covered; in our 'Potions' section we have a selection of lubes and stimulators that can be used either with toys or without. Now sticking with that topic, toys, Fannie has many variations; external (ex. Dame Products - Pom flexible vibrator), internal (ex. Je Joue - Classic bullet) and multi use vibrators (ex. Je Joue - G-kii g-spot vibrator), remote controlled (ex. Lelo - Lyla 2 remote control vibrator) and for partner play (Je Joue - Mio cock ring).

Suitable attire

And of course, you want to look the part too. In our Lingerie section, Fannie has a wide variety of styles and colours. The set obviously doesn't have to match the sex room, switch around with the looks as much as you want to match your mood. Our current collection has some neon styles from Maison Close as well as a beautiful navy satin and lace set (with a matching choker!), and some gorgeous pieces from Leon, handmade from Ukraine.

Endless possibilities right? Now that you know how to built a sex room, it is up to you to go and build that sex room. Start with the little things or go all out right away, whatever you desire.

the real truth about squirting

Posted by Annelotte Mul on

We’ve seen it depicted in pretty much every pornography, squirting, is it real and what exactly is it? Make no mistake about it squirting is very real, however what we see in the movies is an overly exaggerated version of what actually happens. In this blog we are going to explain as much as we can about this phenomenon.

Firstly, there are a few different types of bodily fluids produces by women prior, during and sometimes even after intercourse.

Different types of fluid:

Before intercourse

  • Vaginal lubrication: this is a natural lubricant made by our bodies to get ready for intercourse. The amount of lubrication produced depends on the length of arousal and a number of medical factors. So the comment ‘wow your so wet’ and the understanding of that meaning you are excited and aroused is true, but that doesn’t mean that when you are not as wet you aren’t just as aroused.

During or after intercourse

  • Female ejaculation: now this is not squirting. Female ejaculation is produced by the Skene’s gland and is very similar to male ejaculation; your body will release about 1 ml of ejaculate and it is white-ish in colour.
  • Squirting: the fluid that is released during squirting is similar to urine but chemically different; it is produced by the urethra and contains a bit of pee but is not all pee (and sometimes contains female ejaculate as well). This bodily fluid is released in larger amounts: from 8 ml up to 150 ml.

Now is squirting the same as an orgasm? The short answer is no. The two aren’t always one and the same.  However, the two can appear at the same time but this is not necessarily always the case: sometimes they will appear during intercourse, without ever getting an orgasm and sometimes after you have had an orgasm. Some research believes it happens through G-spot stimulation, but your level of arousal and the position or technique may also play a role in this.

Is every women able to squirt? Just because squirting is real, doesn’t mean that all women do it; one study of  300 participants reported that only seven women self-reported female ejaculation during orgasm. But keep in mind, just because you haven’t experienced it yet doesn’t mean you are unable to squirt and even if you never squirt, that’s totally OK too! Nobody is the same after all.

guide: vibrators

Posted by Annelotte Mul on

Disclaimer: dildo’s are not vibrators!

Possibly one of the most intimidating categories for most of you out there, not because the vibrator itself is a scary thing (on the contrary), but the often overwhelming amount of options: rabbit bullets, air-stimulators, remote controlled vibrators, you name it (not to mention the variety of colour options most vibrators come in) can make it quite difficult to choose what is right for you.

But rest assured that after reading this guide you will know everything you need to know about vibrators.

When launching Fannie this was one of our major goals: making it understandable what the differences between the toys are and to give a curated selection of various vibrators.

First and foremost: external and/or internal penetration?

This preference is very personal and is the main specification amongst vibrators. Most women orgasm from external stimulation, about 95% (sometimes in combination with penetration). Only 5% of women orgasm internal stimulation.

Clitoral stimulation: we have the widest variety of products for external stimulation, this is because this is the way to go for most women.

  • Dame Products - Eva handsfree vibratorA hands-free clitoral vibrator that delivers consistent stimulation during penetration. Eva can be used on its own, with a partner or with another toy.
  • Dame Products - Aer suction stimulatorA powerful arousal tool for fans of oral stimulation. Aer mimics the flutter of a tongue and the suction of a mouth, it creates thrilling pulses of air and a soft seal around your clitoris.
  • Je Joue - Rabbit bullet: The soft and flexible ears move around your body to wherever you want them to. Hug that clitoris with the ears and use the base of the ears for intense vibrations!
  • Dame Products - Pom flexible vibrator: Pom gives you broad or targeted stimulation with a powerful, rumbly motor. This vibrator can provide all over external vibrations when placed flat against your Fannie but can also be used for direct clitoral stimulation with the tip alone.

 Penetration:

However sometimes a toy can provide you with internal as well as external stimulation (sometimes even simultaneously). For instance..

Allround (can be used for internal and external stimulation):

  • Je Joue - Classic bullet: This silky soft classic bullet has a soft silicone tip for pin point stimulation. It comes with a free finger sleeve attachment for those who want a hands free experience. Because of its shape and size it can also be used internally.
  • Lelo - Lyla 2 remote control vibrator: Worn internally or enjoyed externally. Hand your partner the remote to have the most enjoyable handsfree experience. Also great for naughty nights out.

Dual stimulation (simultaneous stimulation):

  • Je Joue - G-kii g-spot vibratorThe G-Kii is a unique vibrator with it's function of adjustability. The G-Kii has 2 independent motors, one in the head and one in the body. It also has  a wider clitoral stimulation area for dual stimulation.
  • Lelo - Enigma dual stimulation vibratorDual stimulation sonic massager. Lelo is never satisfied with the status quo, which is why they always push the boundaries to offer something truly out-of-this-world. Meet Enigma, a luxurious dual-action massager that marries the best of both worlds – deep clitoral and g-spot stimulation.
  • Lelo - Tiani 3 remote control vibrator: Insert the smaller, leaner part of the vibrator and make sure the larger end is placed on the clitorus. Wear the Tiani 3 during intercourse or use it for single play!

Speeds and patterns

The easiest way to explain this goes the following: you are on a treadmill you can choose to have the belt run at a certain speed (same goes for your vibrators with speed options) or you can choose to have an interval training instead (these will be the patterns on a vibrator). Most vibrators have speed options and some have the additional option of pattern options. Depending on how versatile you want your experience to be it might be of importance to you wether or not there is a pattern option available for your toy of liking.

Waterproof vs. water-resistant

This characteristic doesn’t really say much about the functionality of the vibrator but might be of importance depending on where you like to use your sex toys; if you like to use your vibrators for some wet play in the shower or the tub you will need a waterproof toy. If you don’t necessarily plan to use your vibrator in a wet area, water-resistant will do!

guide: lubes

Posted by Annelotte Mul on

Lube makes it easier to orgasm; 50 percent of men and women who used lubricant said it made it easier to have an orgasm, according to a study out of Indiana University's Center for Sexual Health Promotion. Easiest sex hack ever right?

So what exactly is lubricant? Lube is meant to reduce friction and often used during intercourse. Some women use lubricant because of vaginal dryness, others prefer lube because they want even more lubricant than their body naturally provides.

There are several types of lubricants, the main difference being the key ingredients:

Water-based lubricants: give a very natural feeling. However, they may not last as long as a couple would like and may need to be reapplied during sex to maintain moisture. Water based-lubes wash off easily, are easy to clean out of sheets and won't leave stains. They are not very suitable for shower play as they will wash away very easily.

Selection of water-based lubes: Sitre - Sex gel, Knude Society - Glide lubricant

A variation on water-based lube is aloe-based lubricant: Dame products - Alu aloe lube

Silicone-based lubricants: feel silky but slightly sticky on the skin. Silicone-based lubes tend to last longer than water-based lubricants. However, they do not rinse off as easily and irritate some women if they aren’t rinsed immediately after sex. Silicone-based lube is more difficult to clean and they might leave stains on your bedding. Be careful not to use silicone-based lubricants with silicone-based toys, as they can break down the rubber over time.

Selection of silicone-based lubes: Überlube - Classic lubricant

It’s important to note that water- and silicone-based lubricants may contain glycerin, which can lead to inflammation and yeast infections. If this becomes a problem, lubricants without glycerin are available.

Oil-based lubricants: Have a silky feeling that lasts long on the skin. Oil-based lube doesn't wash off as easily and is more difficult to clean off your body and sheets. Oil-based lube should be used with caution; they cannot be used with latex condoms, toys or diaphragms as it will weaken the latex.

Fannie currently offers oil-based moisturisers that can be used as lubricant: Lip Intimate Care - Cleansing + moisturizing oil (prebiotic + postbiotic or coconut + vanilla)

There is no right or wrong when it comes to lubes; it is very personal what you might prefer! Fannie offers a wide variety of lubes in our 'potions' section, with different ingredients and vegan options as well! Consult the descriptions on the product page's to see the different qualities of each lube.
